Abha Dam is located at the western edge of Abha in the south of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was built in 1974. The dam was built of concrete with a length of 350 meters (35 blocks of 14 meters each). Its height is 33 metres. The maximum storage capacity is 2.13 million cubic meters at the final storage height level of 2,200 meters above sea level with a side spillway of 131 meters in length. The dam contains a monitoring and follow-up tunnel along the dams body. The water from the reservoir enters the filtration chamber, which is located in front of the five main blocks of the dam. There is a draft tower inside one of these blocks, and water is drawn from this tower to the opening room of the purification plant that was built on the dam to provide potable water.
