Al Asfar lake

    This lake is located in Al-Omran ,east of Al-Ahsa in Saudi Arabia. It is considered the largest water body in the Gulf region, and it is the only one in the Kingdom of its kind in which an integrated wildlife lives. The lake is of great importance, as it absorbs excess water from heavy rains and protects the area from swamps through open banks. It is also a source of livelihood for the people and a source of weeds that are used as fodder for livestock as well as for small fish, and some plants that are used in manufacturing processes such as Juncus , besides that it was considered an environment and a natural incubator for many resident and migratory animals and birds. The Saudi Ministry of Environment has announced the transformation of the lake into a nature reserve to qualify it to join the World Heritage List
